My 30 month old male intact OE Mastiff Fredo developed an anal sacculitis last month..he has no other skin or digestive issues so this is hard to figure out..he has been on three different antibiotics with no complete resolution..he has no pain from the issue and does not scoot or lick at them..I am getting ready to have him neutered and considering having his anal glands removed at the same time just to prevent problems from continuing. I feel that part of the issue is that the glands were not flushed before beginning an oral antibiotic..he weighs 227 and the vet was not able to sedate him enough to get them flushed..she has recommended coming back and placing an IV catheter and fully sedating him to flush them out just to make sure it IS the anal sacs and not something else..not sure I want to put him through that but I suppose it is prudent to explore and make certain..
Anyone else have anal sac issues with their Mastiff? he also has stud tail but it is not too problematic-- just a bit of hair loss and no discharge or crusting of the area..

Please let me know of your experiences of you have had this problem with your dog..breeder has not gotten back to me about whether other dogs in the line have experienced this issue..
Thanks!

Hi. I do not have too much information for you except that glands are supposed to empty naturally. My raw fed dogs (non mastiff) never had any issues. My current kibble fed dogs (high quality kibble) have issues. Nothing so serious as yours though.

Here is some information I found for you.
