Ok can everyone tell me how much your mastiff eats if you have a mastiff between 12-20 months of age?    Is it common for them to still eat as much as they would under a year old. I thought they were supposed to slow down after a year but I could be wrong.   My goliath boy eats 16 cups a day of his wellness food.    In the morning he gets 8 cups of dry wellness, 3 tablespoons of Alaskan Salmon oil, 1/2 a can of pedigree, 1/2 garlic clove completely peeled and chopped up into pieces, 2 tablespoons of mountain high yogurt for digestion and 2 raw eggs mixed in altogether, and then he gets the same thing at night time. So he gets 4 raw eggs a day plus all the yogurt, garlic, canned food etc. He maintains  pretty good weight and is nice and lean still with no bones showing other than slight shadowing ribs when he walks, but he is only 16 months old.   Is it common for a mastiff pup over a year old to eat that much? Especially as a young male, or does it matter?

Raw eggs are great, but they can bind the biotin in the body and cause issues.  So the salmon oil is doing nothing because the eggs are binding to the biotin in the oil.  It was recommended to have 1-2 eggs per a week, not 4 a day.  It is great for them, but not 4 of them.  As for how much mine eats depends on the food we are on.  As for wellness...that is a high nutrition, the max should be 9-10 cups for that, perhaps you have a "big" mastiff.  Although if he is exerciseing a lot, then more food of course.  Titan eats 10 cups at 14 months old, and he is muscle, skin, and bone (can see all ribs still, he won't eat more than that) plus he gets 1 can of food, chicken necks or backs (fed at different time)

Ok, I will cut back on the eggs then.  Thanks for telling me about the biotin and how it can interfere with the alaskan salmon oil... Goliath is pretty active.  Hes got 2 acres to run on and plays with our 4 year old girl and of course grandma, my 11 year old fur baby just lays around the house all day.. But they all get the same diet.

Zeus is 33 months old and I've been giving him 7-8 cups a day and he's maintained a nice weight. I try to keep him on the slim side because of his joint issues. He also gets some RMB during the week.

Edited to add Zeus weighs about 195lbs.

How much does you mastiff weigh? That depends a lot on how much you feed him.  Our titan weighs 195 at 14 months old, and as i stated he is skin, bone right now....if you go to naturesvariety.com they have a chart of how much to feed..  If you go by the back of the bag, it makes sure that the dog will never be underweight, so they add extra amounts.  To me you could be over doing it, the fresh garlic could cause severe anemia...garlic is an onion, dogs can and do become anemic because of  them.  You can use brewers yeast which has garlic in it from hopps to make beer, although true garlic can cause issues.  try also going to dogfoodproject.com to help you.  I am really big on nutrition with my group.  Perhaps even just adding salmon oil as well as Nupro supplement...and that is all you will need!!

My first mastiff did not wanna eat anything... I was an idiot the first time around and kept switching his food, lol. But not all mastiffs eat like hogs like mine. Goliath stays nice, muscular and lean and still scarfs down 16 cups plus 2 cans and other stuff in his food. He loves it and it keeps him healthy... But all mastiffs are different.

Its also weird because a friend of mine has a relative to my goliath, and he is 2 weeks apart from goliath and is 16 months old 33'' tall and 218lbs, and hes only 16 months old!  Hes not fat at all and hes as long as a limo and has huge bone size and only eats 10 cups a day... I wonder how he can be so large and eat less than goliath??

Mastiff's don't grow out in the stomach area til they are completely full grown. They only get taller til then. Mine will be 3 on March 19th & he eats ab 9 cups but I wonder if he could eat more. Also he eats Gravy Train w warm water to make the gravy.
