Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for joining the board.  Do you own a mastiff now or just have an interest in learning about the breed?  Either way, you've come to the right place - there are many people here that have years of experience.  As far as your picture, I'm not sure what type of dog he is, but could I ask you to start a new thread if you're interested in hearing comments about him?  We likt to use this thread for only greeting and saying hello to all the new members.  Thanks Jennifer.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Meredith and I'm from PA. I'm currently a junior at Penn State majoring in animal sciences with a minor in spanish. I'd like to continue on after graduation to get a joint MBA and JD degree to be an animal defense attorney (defending breeders, vets, individuals who love their dogs just as much as I do, humane societies, etc.). I've had dogs my whole life and couldn't imagine my life without one. A dog is truly a (wo)man's best friend and to me they're so much more. Where else can you find a best friend who loves you no matter what, will never lie to you, is truly loyal and will protect you with his life?

Right now I'm raising and training a Seeing Eye dog named Robert who is a golden retriever labrador cross, and he is truly an amazing dog. He's a joy to have in my life and training a dog for this caliber of work is very difficult but rewarding in every way imaginable. It will break my heart to see him go...His future owner will definitely be blessed to have him. I've wanted a mastiff since I was little, and have been researching this breed for years, and, finally now I have the knowledge, time, money, space and room for one of these noble guys! I've been a member of EMOC since December and have learned a lot from everyone over there (I recognize a lot of people on here as well!). I don't know if these two sites are affiliated in any way, but I just discovered this one and wanted to say hi! I'm hoping and praying for a male puppy hopefully to be born soon! His name will be Hogan (when no one else is listening, "Prince Hogan" lol so he doesn't get too embarassed!) and I just know he's going to be the love of my life. I've waited so long to open my arms, my home and my heart to one of the amazing dogs, and I hope my turn is coming up soon.

Everyone's pictures on here are so great and everyone seems so nice- the only problem though is that now I have another mastiff site to lurk around and occupy my time with!!! I look forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome Carla.  If you talk enough you just might find that one of your friends becomes very interested in the breed ;-).  The board is kind of quiet right now - its always fun to go back thru the past threads and read, see if anything strikes your interest and pull it back up to the front if you have questions.  Welcome again.

Hi All,  Just wanting a word from the wise... When is it time to look again.  Found my angel girl  6 yrs ago and jsut lost her in Oct 06. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her and most days even cry for her. I would appreciate any advice or stories that you may have to share.  No one else except Mastiff lovers understand the lose.  Guess my question is.  Is it possible to have the same connection with another?  Only have 1 child so I cannot even compare to having more than 1 2legged baby.  Any feedback would be wonderful..
  Thank you
And what a WONDERFUL message board!!!!!

Hi Moeky,

Glad you found the board.  I think we all have to find our own period of mourning, be that 2 weeks, 2 months, 1 year.  I am sorry for your loss, very sorry.  I lost a lab that was like a child to me when I was 25 (that was just a bit short of 20 years ago) - it was a devastating loss.  I went out and replaced him with a puppy from the shelter within a month.  I never really bonded with that other puppy in the same way - it was too soon for me and the other puppy had an energy that was so different (he was part border collie and incredibly hyper).   Even so, I just was not ready to embrace him because I was not done mourning the loss of the labrador.

I think with any loss, time, mourning, tears, and a proper letting go is healthy.  You should be able to know within yourself when that time is.  A new puppy will be just that, new!  Totally different, with all the basic similar mastiff traits.

Good luck and welcome!

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost a mixed breed to cancer last March. His loss is what brought us to Zak. I cried at work and at home and a friend suggested I get a puppy. I told her I just wanted a big, lazy, housebroken dog. But I ended up with much more than that. She had a friend that had gotten Zak as a "consolation prize" for her teenage son because they had to move to Monterrey, Mexico. The son soon lost interest in Zak. They had no yard, no grass and no time for Zak. We drove 5 hours to meet them halfway on April 14th and brought him home. I was immediately in love. It took my husband a couple of months because he kept comparing Zak to the dog we had lost. They are like children and have their own personalities. We love them all, but they are definitely not the same. Zak will be 2 on April 28th and I'm going to have a party for him! I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you can love another one just as much. I still miss Ceasar and everytime I look at his grave I get teary-eyed, but then I look at Zak and realize how fortunate I am to have him and his love!

Hi everyone!  New to this board, found by accident  but am a member of a couple of other boards.  Hubby and I are from NY and currently owned by Duncan, brindle mastiff, Baron, great dane, and nikki our pom.  Lost my soul dog Brewster, mastiff, in October.  I miss him everyday.  He was our first mastiff who I will never forget.
