I looked up this thread because I just got done bathing Sunny for the show tomorrow and was wondering what all of you use for foofy stuff, you know to make them extra special shiney for shows, or special occasions.

Otherwise I thought I would add to the thread that I found this great bath tub attachment thing at Walmart, I don't remember the name of it, but it's a handheld thing. It came with different attachments so it fits a greater variety of faucets, which is something I had a huge problem finding (I have a funky old faucet in my tub). If it helps any it is blue and red.

As for the part about getting them used to taking a bath and liking it lol! I ask my Sunny if she wants to take a bath, and she trots to my bathroom and jumps in. When she was a baby I would give her treats in there (without the water at first). I am fortunate to have one of those big sunken tubs though, and I can sit down on the side, so it doesn't completely kill my back.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone's foofy tricks!

I   agree with  most  of you  guys  as a  groomer I  have  found  nothing  better than Dawn to get a  really  dirty  dog  clean. I  also  LOVE the  shampoo  made  by  Halo  called  Buddy wash  it is  really  fresh  and  clean smell they  have  a conditioner too.  I  water it  down  with one half  to  one  third  shampoo to  water  and  it  works  great and  my  dogs   all  smell  fabulous ! I  also  wanted to  say  I  use  Cowboy  Magic  Detangle and Shine  or  Show Sheen on  my  dogs  after a  bath before I  dry  them , and this  helps  repel  dirt  from their  coats  after they are  clean .

Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent will kill fleas.

Holly, I also love Halo products.  I use Halo's Cloud Nine essential oils - few drops in a spray bottle w/ water and mist the dog all over.  I do this every morning to each dog before they go outside.  It's GREAT at repelling ticks, fleas, mosquitos, flies, nats.  It's completely natural and one bottle lasts me a year (not bad for $10).  I use it on myself too instead of bugspray.

All of my dogs like to be bathed.
Sometime we loose Maddox in the house & we find him sitting in the bath tub!
In the summer, when warm, we wash them outside with the garden hose & they like it also.
We use a mix of two shampoos that we dilute:
Plush Puppy : http://www.plushpuppy.com.au/
Animeu: http://huiledemeu.com/produits_detail.php?no_produit=35&produit=animeu&no_famille=3
The Animeu shampoo is made of emu oil & is very very nice & therapeutic for itchy and/or dry skin - & very good to use when frequently bathed (shows).  The Plush Puppy brings more volume & shine!
Oh, and, yes, I dry them with this: http://canadiantire.com/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443251601&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672470&bmForm=form_change_locale&bmFormID=1177243587615&bmUID=1177243587615&bmLocale=fr_CA&bmHash=9fc39eede52446a1e9f235494248ea433cc502b6
It blows so hard, they're dry in 20 minutes & they like it because it also makes them a massage!!

Q:

Brushes:
1-What type of brush do you use on a Mastiff coat?
boar bristle? slicker?

Do you use combs?

(I'm so used to having a TON of grooming tools for my Shih Tzu, that I have no idea what to do with a short coated "easy to groom" dog! lol)

2-Shampooing:
How often can you bathe your Mastiff?

Do you use conditioner on a Mastiff coat?

3-Show Coat Maintenance:
Do you do anything different to keep your show dogs' coats in show condition? id, Do you use oils (sprays) as a finishing product on the coat?

What type of coat does a Mastiff have? (I'm guessing it's a single coat, but is it considered "medium textured" or "hard"?

4- Do Mastiffs shed? (males)

thanks!

I use a regular bristle brush and the Furminator on Apollo.

Lavender Baby Shampoo for baths.

I bathe approx. once or twice a month.

I don't show yet, so I am not an expert there

YES on the shedding! Well, at least Apollo does The Furminator helps a lot.
