Hi guys,

I tried to piggy back on another topic to ask this question but i just noticed it was very old and probably no one will visit or reply there... So i'm trying again in a new thread.

So we've been looking for an EM puppy for a few months now. Being here in Northern VA is not easy, not a lot of breeders here and I'm not feeling the "buying over the internet and going by pictures only" ... it's not just the trust, just not my thing, I want to meet the breeder and the parents of my new baby! Anyways, I just came across this "breeder" in OH who is willing to drive down here to meet me half way with her pup... it's the pick of the litter that fell through as his future family had a family situation and were not able to pick him up so he's left now at 10 weeks old, together with 2 more siblings. Her name is Tammy Williams and she breeds mastiffs under the name of Majestic Mastiffs, located in New Marshfield, OH. Anyone heard of or has any experience with her? She swears her life on her dogs and their pups, their health and temperament, but I've read a lot about overbreeding in OH area that now I'm too scared and debating whether I want to deal with anyone from over there at all.. :/ Was planning to meet up with her this Saturday and I know myself, once I see the pup there's no way I can resist and I'll be bringing him home, but I don't want my heart to completely overtake my common sense so please, share your thoughts/advise I'd appreciate any input you guys have!

Bella, please make sure the parents are health tested. Hips, elbows, heart, and many more. I do not know this breeder. Please do your homework.

Most of us have moved to Facebook. Message Boards aren't used as often anymore within the mastiff community. I've asked some breeders to join in on this thread, so hopefully we can help you.

Hi Bella,
I'm located in Ohio and I can assure not all of us breeders here are bad. There are quite a few that leave a lot to be desired, but there are just as many quality breeders. I do not personally know this Tammy Williams. As stated above, please do your homework and make sure that both parents are health tested for hips, elbows, heart, thyroid, CMR, pra, cystinuria and dm. The last four tests I listed are big ones! There are a few other quality reputable breeders in Ohio that have litters currently. Teresa Emerson of Stargazer Mastiffs has a gorgeous litter currently as well as Tammy Kinkade. I'm not sure on their availability though. It's definitely worth it to look around and not jump right in. Im just like you, once I see the cute face it's hard to say no [wink]

Thank you all for your comments!

WeilersGentleGiants I'm sorry I hope I did not come off rude, I didn't mean that all breeders in OH are bad... just a lot of stories from over there about a lot of shady breeders and puppy mills. I have looked and talked to a few very reputable breeders on the East Coast, some not too far from me, and as much as I could take the hit of a $2500 for a pup, I just don't want to wait for a year or so and they're all prepaid before the momma is even in heat... They all have a looooong waitlist, maybe it's because it's here around VA and there's not so many of them here... Now if you have certain expectations when it comes to the pup's gender and color the wait may be even longer and my kids are stuck on the silver fawn boy..:/
I don't think that Tammy is a show breeder nor has she has done any of the testing mentioned by WeilersGentleGiants but she owns 3 generations and they're all in great health and no issues. I know it's safer to go with a fully tested parents but we've been looking for about 6 months now and as soon as I think I found the breeder then something doesn't add up or the beautiful EM turn out to be AM after 2 conversations .... I feel a little discouraged so after not being able to find anything bad on this Tammy person, I thought we would give it a shot...
Let me try to look up the two breeders you mentioned and see if they have any pups available.

btw, what's the facebook where everybody moved?

Please google anyone you atre looking to purchase a puppy from? Do they have a website. Do they health test and is that testing on the http://www.offa.org website, do they give a health guarantee, are they members of the MCOA if they are willing to meet you why cant you go to their house and see how the puppies are kept and raised. Just because she has 3 generations doe not guarantee the health of the puppies. if you don't test you don't know. Please do not settle

I understand you wanting to meet the breeder but the best dogs are not always close to you. Dealing with reputable breeders can be a great experience

NEVER EVER pay for a puppy before they are born huge red flag!!!!!

you are absolutely right! I did ask if we could come visit and she said no problem and was very inviting. Only reason why we were going to meet half way was because my youngest child has a terrible motion sickness and traveling 6h one way would be a nightmare for everyone in the car... :/
She doesn't have a website, just facebook...As I said, she doesn't seem to be a show breeder but her dogs do look great. And we only want a family pet for our kids to love so I don't care if they have any champion bloodline or not. I might give it another thought though... Ehhh...

Bella she does not have to be a show breeder. There are many excellent breeders that do not show. I would be extra careful I know you want a pet and you want a puppy but please consider 12 vet visit can pay the difference between a healthy dog and a sick one. There are so many issues that can arise there is absolutely no reason for not DNA testing for such things as blindness, Cystinuria, DM all can be prevented with a 25 dollar test. I think it is irresponsible breeding to not at least DNA test. You want a dog for your children that will live a long time. Yes testing is no guarantee but it helps. I have gone to her facebook page and looked at her dogs I just want to say please be careful there are good breeders you made a huge step by coming here and getting a reference
