I was wondering if cranberry supplements would help dogs with frequent UTI's of course with plenty of hydration. I know it helps women that are prone to these type of things.

Cranberry juice might help lower the pH of urine which causes it to become more acidic.  This might help urinary tract infections that are caused by bacterial growth in an alkaline urine environment.

On the other hand, if the dog has Cystinuria which is usually consistent with an acidic urine environment then you do NOT want to make the urine more acidic, but instead your vet may want you to increase the pH level of the urine to cause it to become neutral or slightly alkaline.  It's tricky as you don't want to get the pH too high or too low.

It is my understanding that you should NEVER give an animal or human that is Cystinuria positive cranberry supplements or anything that will cause the urine to become more acidic.

Your best bet is to find out why the dog has the reoccurring urinary tract infections and treat it appropriately by following the advice of your veterinarian.  Also as you mentioned, make sure the dog is drinking plenty of water and always make sure it is urinating ok...

Thank you for replying. We have not had problems with uti's as of yet , but someone i was speaking to about mastiffs told me that females are more prone to uti's based on how they sit. So with my mind bouncing around like it does I thought, hey I wonder if this might be helpful or if anyone knows if it would work. Having just gotten our very first Mastiff yesterday and since it is a female I am still trying to sponge up as much info as I can get seeing whats adds up and what is adding differantly , seeking answers so that that should we ever have any problems I will at least have a general understanding so that I can ask the right questions instead of nodding my head and hoping I can trust the vet to have the same desires as I do for the health of our huge foot warmer
